Castlemaine to honour Wild Colonial Boy

Castlemaine is to honour one of its most famous sons with a new monument.

A monument is to be erected in memory of Jack Duggan, the Wild Colonial Boy, who’s believed to have left the village in the 1880s and made his way to Australia.

The Wild Colonial Boy Committee will shortly erect a full-size bronze monument his honour in the centre of Castlemaine.

Chairperson Tommy Griffin says it’s hoped to have the monument in place early next year.

He adds the story of Jack Duggan is well known.
