Castleisland Cllr says Georgie O’Callaghan Park opening should not be overshadowed by John Delaney

The opening of the Georgie O’Callaghan Park in Castleisland should not be overshadowed by the controversary surrounding John Delaney.

The former FAI Chief Executive was due to attend the official opening in Castleisland on Saturday.

However, the FAI has confirmed that Mr Delaney will not be part of the official FAI delegation to the county; it’s not yet known if he will attend in a personal capacity.

Numerous events have been planned for Saturday, honouring Georgie O’Callaghan who founded Castleisland AFC and was one of the most well-known and respected figures in the sport.

Councillor Bobby O’Connell says Mr O’Callaghan dedicated his life to the local soccer club.

The Fine Gael councillor says Saturday’s event is a celebration and shouldn’t be overshadowed by national events relating to John Delaney.
