The mother of a Castlegregory man who’s been imprisoned in Greece says they’re receiving massive support from friends and people in West Kerry.
Sean Binder, who attended national school in Castlegregory and Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí secondary school in Tralee, was arrested on the island of Lesbos.
Sean Binder was arrested on suspicion of human trafficking, money laundering, espionage and being a member of a criminal organisation.
The 24-year-old, who has a Masters in International Relations Theory, had been working as a volunteer with a non-governmental organisation, Emergency Response Centre International which helps refugees and migrants.
Sean’s being currently detained on Lesbos.
He faces 20 years in jail if convicted.
Sean’s being moved to a prison on the island of Helios tomorrow.
His mother Fanny, who is in Greece, says Sean can be held for 18 months without charge, under Greek law.
She says a lot of people are working in the background to try to help Sean.
