Calls again made to tackle dog fouling and illegal dumping in graveyards

Calls are again being made to tackle the issue of dog fouling and illegal dumping in graveyards.

Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council Cllr Norma Foley told the Tralee Municipal District meeting that the issue of roaming dogs and dog fouling is causing considerable distress to relatives of those buried in Rath Graveyard.

Kerry County Council is to arrange for dog wardens to visit the cemetery on a periodic basis in an effort to address the matter.

Meanwhile, Cllr Terry O’Brien asked that CCTV cameras be deployed in graveyards to tackle illegal dumping; the council said this is not feasible due to the area needing to be covered.

The council says it will explore the possibility of using covert cameras again following its success in the past.
