Calls to lessen weight restrictions over Conor Pass to benefit Local Link users

There are calls to lessen weight restrictions over Conor Pass to benefit Local Link users.
Councillor Seamus Cosaí Fitzgerald made the call at the recent South and West Kerry Municipal District meeting, saying that people in Cloghane cannot receive the benefits of the Local Link service due to weight restrictions on the mountain pass.
Currently, vehicles over two tonnes are prohibited from travelling the route between Cloghane and Dingle.
Councillor Seamus Cosaí Fitzgerald says many buses and farm vehicles regularly travel the route, despite being well over the weight limit.
He adds, however, they’re doing so illegally.
The Fine Gael councillor wants a lessening of the weight restriction so that vehicles, including 12-seater buses, can use the mountain pass.
He says it’ll benefit users of the Local Link service in Cloghane who want to travel to Dingle.
In response, Kerry County Council says, while the weight restriction is there for a reason, it will engage with the relevant parties and review the limit.
