There are calls for the footpath on the Sunhill Road in Killorglin to be extended for health and safety reasons.
Councillor Michael Cahill is calling on Kerry County Council to extend the public footpath along the busy road which houses a number of estates, homes and farms.
He says there is a large population living along the route including many elderly people and young families.
He added that it is a health and safety matter.
The Fianna Fáil councillor is asking Kerry County Council to include the area in the next Road Works Programme and to make funding available.
