Calls for text gaming to be outlawed.

Cllrs in Killarney have called for mobile phone text gaming to be outlawed. The practice involves a phone user receiving an unsolicited text message advising him or her of their chance to win a considerable sum of money. The message is framed in such a fashion as to induce the consumer to participate. In a motion put before Killarney Town Council Cllr Pat F O`Connor said in effect this is one arm bandit mobile phone style and is a harmful and deceitful practice. Cllr O`Connor said gaming and lotteries are strictly controlled in all other contexts yet there seems to be nothing to regulate text gaming. The motion to outlaw it was passed by Cllrs and its now to be circulated among the other town councils around the country.
