Calls for staff training in disability awareness

Chief Executive of the Equality Authority says that it’s essential that there is disability awareness training for staff in public premises. Niall Crowley was reacting to an allegation that a premise in the county had asked a number of people with special needs to leave the building because their presence was off putting to other customers.He says it’s important that staff have the skills to deal with situations which involve disabled customers. He says that there is equality legislation with deals with this. Meanwhile a member of the Board of Management of the Nano Nagle special school in Listowel Noel Leahy, says parents need to stand up for their children’s rights.
