A recommendation to market the entire county as a single tourism brand has reached the Ministers table. Kerry County Development Board recently made a submissions to the Minister for Tourism John O` Donoghue to look at marketing Kerry under one single banner. In a brief statement Shannon Development says its happy to participate in any discussions with tourism interests on the marketing of the county.Radio Kerry news learned in December of last year that discussions to market Kerry as one entity took place with Minister O`Donoghue and a group of hoteliers in tralee. Kerry is split in two under the current strategy, with North Kerry marketed by Shannon Development while South Kerry is under the juristiction of Cork Kerry tourism.According to Joe McGrath, director of services for community and enterprise, the County Development Board`s view is that there should be a single tourism authority. The Minister is also understood to be favourable to the move. Submissions were taken from Shannon Development, Cork Kerry tourism among other interested parties and discussed at Development Board level. According to sources, Cork Kerry tourism is the front runner to market the county as a tourism brand.Industry sources suggest that if the move gets the go ahead areas like North Kerry which were heavily funded could see cutbacks under a new tourism strategy. The final decision will rest with Minister O Donoghue.
