Calls for committee to consider future of St Finan’s Hospital

pna Fears are being expressed that St Finan’s Hospital in Killarney will fall into disrepair and become a target for vandals now that is completely vacant. St Finan’s Hospital, which first opened in 1852, is no longer home to patients. Recently, the Southdoc centre, which was based there in recent years, relocated to elsewhere in Killarney. The Kerry branch of the Psychiatric Nurses Association says that the 161 year-old hospital could be subjected to vandalism if it is not properly secured. They also say that with heating now turned off in the building, dampness and leaks will cause the hospital to fall into disrepair. The PNA is asking the HSE and politicians in Kerry to set up a committee to consider future options for the former hospital.
