Calls for a review of free parking in Tralee town.

There’s been a call for a review of free parking on Saturdays in Tralee. Cllr Terry O Brien says the gesture by the council has not generated the extra revenue expected as there is less turnover of spaces. He says people are now staying for the entire day but spending the same amount of money. Cllr O Brien is suggesting having free parking midweek instead. But the Chamber of Commerce says there needs to be some incentive for shoppers to come into the town center at the weekend. President Daithi O Connor says Saturday is the busiest day of the week and it makes sense to offer the spaces to shoppers rather than workers midweek. He says while it will be reviewed in September he’s in favour of keeping the system going.
