Calls for critical Listowel watermain to be replaced

Irish Water is being urged to replace a vital section of watermains in Listowel, which has broken on five occasions this year.

Last Saturday, the old cast iron mains on Upper Church Street broke causing businesses and homes in the town to be without water from 10 o’clock on Saturday night until 3pm on Sunday.

Fianna Fail Cllr Jimmy Moloney is calling on Irish Water to carry out an audit of pipes that need replacing; he says the 150 metres of pipe on Upper Church Street could be replaced as part of planned roadworks.
