Calls to begin road improvement works in Kilcummin despite ongoing delays to proposed sewerage scheme

There are calls to begin road improvement works in Kilcummin, despite ongoing delays to a proposed sewerage scheme.

In recent days, it was confirmed the proposed start date for the Kilcummin Sewerage Scheme has been pushed out again, with Irish Water hoping to begin construction in 2020.

Delays to the scheme have led to hold-ups in improving the Killarney-Kilcummin road and to planning permission being refused for houses.

Local resident Tom Leslie says the condition of the road in the area means it’s dangerous for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians in Kilcummin.

He believes sewerage scheme infrastructure can be laid underneath any road improvement works, head of the construction of the treatment plant.
