Call for safety improvement works on Killarney Bypass following death of cyclist

There’s a call for safety improvement works on the Killarney Bypass following the death of a cyclist last week.

Annette Mannix, who was in her late 40s, died after she was in collision with a tractor close to the Lewis Road junction.

A petition was signed at her funeral calling for works to be carried out, and Independent Cllr Brendan Cronin brought an emergency motion before this week’s meeting of Kerry County Council, demanding immediate action.

Cllr Cronin says Killarney councillors have requested changes to the layout of the Lewis Road junction for years, but nothing has happened.

He says they want an immediate meeting with Transport Infrastructure Ireland and a commitment for safety improvement works.

Sister of the late Annette Mannix, Suzanne Dennehy says the junction needs to be made safer.
