There have been calls to carry out emergency repair works to the seawall in Caherciveen.
Fianna Fail Councillor Michael Cahill appealed to Kerry County Council and the Office of Public Works for the repairs to be carried out between the pier and the bridge.
Cllr Cahill said the area in question, in the vicinity of the Council Yard, requires immediate attention and that the railing at the pier should be immediately replaced as it is now a major health and safety issue.
In response Kerry County Council said that the repair of the seawall will be considered for any suitable funding that may come available such as the OPW ‘Coastal Erosion Minor Works Scheme’.
It added that the seawall had been examined and does not represent any immediate risk and the damaged handrails and guardrails at Caherciveen Pier have already been replaced.
