Call for Minister to fund dredging in Dingle Harbour allowing access for larger vessels

A West Kerry councillor is calling on the Agriculture Minister to provide funding for a plan for larger vessels, such as cruise ships, to access Dingle Pier.

Fine Gael Cllr Seamus Cosaí Fitzgerald is urging Minister Michael Creed to fund the dredging of Dingle Harbour after an initial tranche of funding was provided last year to draw up a plan.

This plan has now been completed; it includes widening the harbour channel and providing a wider turning area for vessels.

Cllr Cosaí Fitzgerald said cruise companies have expressed an interest in Dingle; last summer the 400 foot National Geographic Explorer docked at the pier after being guided in by Harbour Master Nigel Collins.
