There’s a call for an independent review into a fire at a Moyvane building where asbestos was present.
The blaze last November resulted in the closure of the local school the following day, and concerns have been raised by fire fighters about their welfare following exposure to asbestos.
Sinn Féin Councillor Toireasa Ferris was one of a number of councillors that raised the issue at Monday’s county council meeting.
Kerry CEO Moira Murrell says procedures were followed on the night, and any issues raised will be learned from; the council is meeting the fire fighters in Listowel tomorrow to address their concerns.
Councillor Ferris says it’s believed the firemen’s gear was left at the fire station for nine days before being examined; she says this isn’t right.
