There’s a call for the government to build hubs for older people to tackle isolation.

Jerh O’Donoghue of Rathmore Social Action Group says such an initiative, where older people live in close proximity to each other, works very well in the east Kerry town.

The group is building four more social houses in Rathmore; they’ve already developed 31 homes for older people.

Jerh O’Donoghue says more than half of people on housing waiting lists are looking for one-bed houses, especially older people, and creating these kinds of hubs will not only provide housing but help combat isolation:
