Call for on the spot fines for illegally camping overnight in beach car parks

The Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council wants on the spot fines introduced for those who illegally camp overnight in beach car parks. John Brassil KCC chairman 2 Cllr John Brassil also said that licences for trading at the county’s beaches are being taken and in some cases are not being used therefore preventing some-one else from trading. The Fianna Fáil Cllr who is from Ballyheigue suggested the issue of temporary licences in order to provide adequate services at the beach. He also said ‘no camping’ signs were being ignored and proposed that current beach bye-laws be amended as they are not stringent enough. The council acknowledged that a review of bye-laws is warranted having regard to issues raised by the members in relation to parking of camper vans and caravans overnight, in some locations. Director of Services Charlie O’Sullivan recommended that both issues be considered by the Operations SPC to review both the Kerry County Council Car Park bye-laws and the Casual Trading Bye-laws
