Call for councillors to be notified of plans to house refugees is shot down

A call by a councillor to be notified if Kerry County Council is to house refugees has been shot down.

South and West Kerry Municipal District Cllr John Francis Flynn called on the local authority to inform councillors of any future plans to accommodate refugees in the county.

Council management said, however, that work with the Department of Justice on such accommodation would be dealt with in a sensitive and confidential manner, as with any social housing application.
