Call for council to replace bridge leading to Carrauntoohil

There’s been a call for Kerry County Council to replace a bridge leading to Carrauntoohil.

Cllr Patrick Connor-Scarteen raised the issue at the recent South and West Kerry Municipal District meeting.

He called on the council to apply for funding to replace the Glosheen Bridge in Lislibane, Beaufort as the existing bridge is old and narrow, allowing only one vehicle to pass.

Cllr Connor-Scarteen believes this bridge, which leads to one of the starting points for climbing Carrauntoohil, is in grave danger of being swept away in a flood on the river.

Kerry County Council says there’s no funding available to replace the structure, but they’ll arrange to have the bridge inspected to ensure there are no structural defects.
