Call for An Bord Pleanala to be cognisant of council planning decisions in rural areas

An Bord Pleanala needs to be cognisant of planning decisions made by county councils when it comes to commercial developments with potential for job creation in rural areas.

That’s according to Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring, who was speaking to Radio Kerry about a new online survey, which is seeking the views of the public on challenges and opportunities for rural Ireland.

It’s part of a consultation process being undertaken by the Minister’s department to inform the development of a new Government policy for rural Ireland.

Speaking about the refusal of planning applications which have been accused of stifling job creation in depopulated areas, the Minister says where Kerry or another council has given planning permission for a project, An Bord Pleanala needs to pay attention to their reasons for this.
