Call for 2017 graduates to be offered jobs in Kerry Mental Health Services

A Kerry TD is calling on the Health Minster to ensure 2017 graduates are offered permanent employment in the Kerry Mental Health Services.

Independent Deputy Michael Healy-Rae says there’s a shortage of nurses in the sector, and that the Kerry Mental Health Services is very dependent on overtime and retired staff to provide a service.

The HSE recently confirmed €4.6 million has been spend to date in 2017 on agency nurses in the mental health sector; Deputy Healy-Rae says this is being done instead of hiring nurses on the panel awaiting full-time work.

He says the issue needs to be addressed immediately by the Minister.
