Cabinet to hold first meeting since the summer break

The cabinet will discuss the future of Ireland’s participation in a UN mission in the Golan Heights today. Ministers meet this afternoon for the first time since the summer break – with the UN peacekeeping mission, and the recent abortion controversy, set to dominate. Government buildings Ministers are due to get a report from Health Minister Leo Varadkar on the claim a rape victim who was expressing suicidal thoughts was denied an abortion. Some budgetary discussions will also take place off the back of yesterday’s exchequer returns, while Tánaiste Joan Burton has asked for an update on the housing delivery programme.
