Bus Eireann confirms Killarney bus station closure

A Kerry County Councillor is calling on Bus Eireann to reintroduce a staff member to keep Killarney bus station open.

The company removed staff from the facility at Killarney Outlet Centre in 2017 for cost saving measures, since then the operator of the shop offered help to passengers on a voluntary basis.

However, last Saturday the shop closed and Bus Eireann says it is actively seeking a new tenant.

Bus Eireann says the closure is anticipated to be temporary and the ticket vending machines will not be relocated as a result; passengers will have to buy tickets online or directly from the bus driver.

Fianna Fail Councillor Norma Moriarty says it is counterproductive from Bus Eireann’s point of view:

Meanwhile, Junior Minister Brendan Griffin says he is in direct contact with the CEO of Bus Eireann Stephen Kent on the matter.
He says it is totally unacceptable to have a bus station closed in a town the size of Killarney.
