Brosna man is sentenced to 3 years in prison for manslaughter

A Kerryman has been sentenced to three years in prison for the manslaughter of his father. Last week by a majority verdict, a jury found Timmy Joe Murphy from Knockawinna, Brosna, guilty of striking his father resulting in his death. The charge arose from an incident at Main Street, Castleisland on January 27th, 2004. 58-year-old Willie Joe Murphy died three days later. Passing sentence, Judge Carroll Moran said it had been a very difficult case for him and he had been very moved by the many submissions on behalf of the 28-year-old accused.
