Ballybunion & Rockmount Set To Face Off For All-Ireland Fourball Title

The four semi-finalists arrived at Newlands Golf Club early this morning with the Miele All-Ireland Fourball title in sight. As players and supporters arrived from all four regions they admired the pristine fairways and undulating greens while excitement filled the clubhouse. Region 3’s Ballybunion led from the start with past interprovincial player Mary Sheehy securing a win with partner Maeve Barrett on the 17th. The match to follow was very tight between the two sides but a healthy 5&4 win for Ballybunion’s third pairing sealed the deal. The final match was called in as Enniscrone could do no more. Ballybunion are through to the Miele All-Ireland final tomorrow, 4 October. It was a tighter affair in the other semi-final between Region 1 Rathfarnham and Region 2 Rockmount. Rathfarnham took a one hole lead through the 6th and managed to hold this throughout the match before they took the winning point on the 16th with a 4&2 victory. The Ulster side had the momentum in the second match and finished the match on the 13th hole. The third match needed all 18 holes in order to produce a result as Rockmount ended the day with a 1 hole victory over the Dublin club. The final match was called in and Rockmount will now progress to the All-Ireland final tomorrow to take on Ballybunion.
