Ballyard housing development is given the go ahead

The Ballyard Residents Association say they may take their case to the courts following a decision by council members to allow the construction of 85 social housing units in the area. The project was given the green light at last night`s council meeting. The Residents Association say they had no contact with The Council despite several attempts to meet with them and are criticising members over a lack of consultation on the proposal. They are refuting claims that their objections are class driven. Chairperson of the group Eddie Barrett says they are taking a stand against last nights decision. Meanwhile Sinn Fein Councillor Cathal Foley says he received a number of abusive phone calls over the weekend from people alleging to be members of the Ballyard Residents Association. Councillor Foley says the majority of the calls were courteous however some of the callers were offensive.
