Ballinskelligs group feels An Bord Pleanala don’t take economic impact into account

A South Kerry community group feels An Bord Pleanala don’t take the economic needs of developments into account.

That’s according to Chairman of Coiste Forbartha na Sceilge, Dessie Cronin, who was speaking after An Bord Pleanala recently refused planning permission for the redevelopment of Cable O’Leary’s in Ballinskelligs.

Kerry County Council had granted planning permission to OS Properties to demolish the existing hotel and build a new 45 bedroom, three-suite hotel including a bar, restaurant and gym.

This, however, was appealed by two parties to An Bord Pleanala, who refused permission.

As a result of this decision, a public meeting on planning is being held at Ballinskelligs Community Hall this Friday at 8.30pm.

Dessie Cronin says with 300 holiday homes in Ballinskelligs, they badly need infrastructure in the area.
