Australia Wins The Juddmonte Stakes

Horse 5British and Irish Derby winner Australia is now as short as 2-7 favourite for the Qipco Irish Champions Stakes after landing the Group 1 Juddmonte International Stakes at York this afternoon. Trainer Aidan O’Brien’s son Joseph had to work hard to make the weight of 8st 12lb to ride the three-year-old, but that effort was rewarded when the current Irish champion jockey guided Australia to an easy two length success over The Grey Gatsby. Fellow Ballydoyle inmate Kingfisher set the pace for the 8-13 shot, and Australia responded strongly when O’Brien asked him to pick up inside the final furlong. The Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on Irish Champions Weekend in just over three weeks time looks to be Australia’s next target and he is no bigger than 1-2 favourite with bookmakers for that Group 1.
