Attempt being made to save Caherciveen locomotive engine

A locomotive engine in Caherciveen that is facing a life on the scrap heap may be saved. The engine hauled the last passenger train out of Caherciveen in the 1950s and it was brought back to the town from Belfast in 1997. It has been seriously damaged as a result of vandalism over a period of time and the Caherciveen Development Company, Acard is considering breaking it up for scrap. But Pat Kavanagh of the Fas Social Economy Program at the old railway station in Kells is attempting to save the engine. He says it will cost up to 10 thousand euro to relocate the engine and turn it into a tourist attraction.
