Around 550 calls made to UHK scan review helpline

Around 550 calls have been made to a helpline set up to deal with concerns of patients affected by a major look back at over 46,000 scans at University Hospital Kerry.

Ten consultants are examining the files, which were reported on by a former consultant radiologist at the hospital over a 16-month period, after seven patients with serious delayed diagnosis were identified.

Six staff members are manning the helpline which has been contacted 542 times since it was opened on Monday; the line is open 9am to 5pm today and tomorrow.

The helpline, 1800-742-900, will be part of the discussions at a weekly meeting of the Serious Incident Management Team today.
