Ardfert is losing out on tourists because of a lack of amenities.
That’s according to local Cllr Toireasa Ferris, who says 8,000 people visited Ardfert Cathedral last year, but that only included six tourist buses.
As well as the 11th century cathedral, Ardfert is also home to the mid-19th century Glandore Gate, and the 13th century Ardfert Friary.
The Sinn Féin Cllr says the local community has applied for funding under the 2017 Town and Village Renewal Scheme for a new car park and toilets.
She feels the village, which markets itself as the Medieval Capital of Kerry, is missing out on more tourists visiting as there’s no coach parking or public toilets.
