An application for an oyster farm licence in South Kerry has been withdrawn following opposition to the plan.
If successful, the application would have seen an oyster bed placed close to the shore at Coss Strand in Templenoe.
According to Save our Beach Coss Strand group which was opposed to plans for the oyster farm, the applicants behind the project informed them of their decision to withdraw their licence application.
Save Our Beach Coss Strand group have criticised the system of licencing describing it as deeply flawed, claiming that there isn’t enough onus placed on applicants to consider the impact planned aquaculture farms have on amenities.
The group held a public meeting about the issue this week and had set up a GoFundMe page.
The money raised will now be refunded to those who made donations.
