Applicants in danger of losing funding to build cafe on Blasket Islands

One of the applicants behind plans to renovate and construct a cafe on the Blasket Islands says they are in danger of losing Government funding of eight and half million euro because of objectors to the plans. Some of the buildings date back to the late 19th century. The Blasket Forum convened by former County Manager Martin Nolan limits the amount of development on the island. However objectors say they are concerned that the applications will effect the islands application for world heritage status. Peter Callery says plans to draw down government funding are at a critical point.
