The European Parliament Constituency Committee has recommended an additional seat be added to the South constituency.
It is proposed to increase the South constituency from four to five seats, which has been welcomed by Kerry MEP Seán Kelly.
He says it is good news for the citizens who will gain an extra MEP to represent them.
The report comes ahead of the European Elections next May, where seats will be redistributed following the UK’s planned exit from the EU.
The recommendations are subject to Oireachtas approval.
