Adare bypass plans stall due to lack of funding

Roadway - Duagh AbbeyfealeAn alternative bypass scheme for Adare appears to have been put on hold. Last year An Bord Pleanala ruled that it wasn’t satisfied that the selected route for bypassing the village was necessarily the best solution. 10,000 vehicles pass through Adare every day and  it was hoped the bypass would help traffic congestion in the village. The proposed bypass was linked to plans for a Limerick to Cork motorway; one of a list of infrastructure projects now withdrawn. Over 4.3 million euro has been spent to date by the National Roads Authority on the plan. However, it now seems the project has stalled. Following a parliamentary question from Kerry South TD Tom Fleming the NRA said having regard to the significant scaling back of investment in transport infrastructure there is no scope to undertake planning and design work on an alternative bypass scheme for Adare. This will not change until the funding situation improves.
