80 social economy jobs under threat in North Kerry.

North Kerry stands to loose over 80 social economy jobs under a restructuring of the service which is supported by FAS. The scheme was drawn up to provide assisted employment to the long term unemployed and to help people from disadvantaged backgrounds get fulltime work. The jobs in Kerry are in a variety of areas from working with the elderly and the disabled, providing St Vincent de Paul services in the community, to working on tourism projects. Speaking in the Dail Deputy Jimmy Deenihan said social economy jobs are vital to North Kerry.
