70 businesses receive grant aid from Uderas Na Gaeltachta

Udaras Na Gaeltachta approved grant aid for almost 70 businesses in the Kerry Gaeltacht last year. Compared to 2002 there were 23 more full time jobs in assisted businesses than in 2003. Overall 780 people in the Kerry gaeltacht work in udaras supported companies. The Kerry gaeltact accounts for 11 per cent of employment in Irish speaking areas around the country. During 2003 grants of over 700,000 were approved for 37 small companies in the county but only 200,000 was paid out. 10 large industries in Kerry were earmarked for funding of 172,000 euro in the year. The biggest single grant of 76,000 went to o cathain iasc in Dingle. Over one hundred and 80 thousand euro was shared out among around 40 small companies in the 12 months. Delta, a company based in Ballinskelligs received the largest grant here of 42,000 euro. Commenting on the year Cathoirleach of Udaras Liam O Cuinnegain emphasised the importance of infrastructural developments in attracting service enterprises to The Gaeltacht. He said with this in mind An Udaras is developing modern office facilities in areas like Dingle where a business park is in the pipeline.
