There are 67 consultant vacancies in the South/South West Hospital Group, which includes University Hospital Kerry.
That’s according to figures released to Sinn Fein’s health spokesperson Louise O’Reilly published in today’s Irish Times.
33 of the vacancies are at Cork University Hospital.
The data came from a new system but the HSE says this was only recently put in place and warned that there may be variances or gaps in the data as the process was not complete.
The HSE says cardiology referrals in Kerry are being managed by a UHK Consultant Physician and the Consultant Pathologist will leave his position at the end of the year and will then be replaced.
