56-thousand leaving cert students get their results today

The states 56-thousand leaving cert students will get their results today. Figures from the State Examinations Commission show that the numbers sitting honours maths is at its highest ever with more than 14-thousand taking the paper this year. Jan O'Sullivan, Minister of State, Department of Environment, Community and Local Government with special responsibility for Housing and Planning 10 per cent of those students earned an A grade –  a drop of one point on 2013 However the failure rate in some maths and science subjects is also on the rise. 10 per cent of students taking ordinary level physics achieved an E, F or NG grade – the figure for honours is 8 per cent. In chemistry 15 per cent of students failed the ordinary level paper with while 9 per cent did not pass the higher level.
