500 nursing home bed shortfall predicted for Kerry

A study is predicting a 500 nursing home bed shortfall in Kerry in eight years’ time.

Bank of Ireland examined the size and status of all nursing homes in the country.

Its figures, published in the Sunday Business Post, show the country will be short 7,200 nursing homes beds by 2026; that includes 500 in Kerry.

Projections show the population aged over 80 could increase nationally by 130,000 by the year 2030.
