22 recommendations given to IT Tralee following review

22 recommendations have been given to the Institute of Technology of Tralee following a review of postgraduate degrees. The review was carried out by Quality and Qualifications Ireland following the outcome of an investigation into an allegation of plagiarism against former IT Tralee Chair Flan Garvey. It was found Mr Garvey, who has since stepped down, had plagiarised his Masters thesis but that the plagiarism was unintentional. ittralee The QQI review aimed to evaluate the operation and management of the validated research degree programmes and to make recommendations for improvements. The Institute was commended on its entrepreneurial approach to the various sources of funding for research. It was also praised for its overhaul of its plagiarism guidelines and the QQI believes this new version is sound. The institute has drawn up an action plan to deal with the 22 recommendations, 13 of which have been implemented. When QQI is happy with the IT’s implimentation of the action plan  recruitment to the  research degree programmes may resume. The body will contact the IT again in 2014 to check the progress being made.
