2,000 people in psychiatric care in Southern Health Board region.

Up to 2,000 people are in psychiatric care in the Southern Health Bord region. Almost half of these 884 are in full time residential care. The Southern Health Board says it has 1,700 staff catering for psychiatric services in Kerry and Cork.This year the bord is to examine the statistics to see if some sectors are more prone to mental illness and target resources into those areas. During the coming year the bord aims to progress the development of a 30 place dementia unit in Killarney and target suicide.
