18 jobs to go in Killorglin plant

18 jobs are to go at a pharmaceutical plant in Killorglin. Klinge pharmaceuticals has announced that the jobs loss will become effective in March 2007. Astellas Pharma which is the parent company of Klinge Pharmaceuticals says the closure is a result of a review of its operation in Ireland. In a statement the company says it found that the function of its Irish subsidiary is already duplicated within the company and so in order to ensure efficiency its taken the move to reduce numbers at the plant in Killorglin.The 18 employees will be entitled to apply for a voluntary redundancy scheme to facilitate the closure. The company commenced operation in Killorglin in 1972. Klinge pharmaceuticals is a pharmaceutical and fine chemical company, which manufactures products used to treat various medical conditions. A SIPTU representative said that the union will be entering into formal discussions with the company as soon as possible.
