1,400 people are being affected daily by the nurses’ strike in the Kerry and Cork region.
Kerry County Councillor and member of the HSE South Health Forum John Joe Culloty says it is a worrying situation.
Kerry day care centres for those with intellectual disabilities and the elderly, respite services and hospital appointments have all been affected by the strike action.
The Fianna Fáil councillor says backing up of cancelled appointments is a major concern, particularly as three consecutive days of strike action are planned for next week.
John Joe Culloty says people whose appointments have been cancelled will get priority when they are being rescheduled, which he says will in turn have a domino effect on the health service.
The Kerry councillor believes changes need to be made to the Irish health service, and wants both sides to sit down and sort it out soon.
