Warning to Remain Viligant to Meningitis Symptoms

IN THE LAST FOUR WEEKS THERE HAS BEEN 7 CASES OF MENINGITIS IN THE SOUTHERN HEALTH BOARD AREA. ONE OF THE CASES WAS IN KERRY AND 6 IN CORK. DR. FIONA RYAN, SOUTHERN HEALTH BOARD PUBLIC HEALTH SPECIALIST HAS ISSUED A WARNING TO REMAIN VILIGANT OF THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF MENINGITIS AS THE DISEASE IS MORE PREVALENT DURING WINTER MONTHS. THE SOUTHERN HEALTH BOARD HAD A TOTAL OF 46 CASES OF MENINGITIS LAST YEAR RESULTING IN THE DEATH OF 3 CHILDREN. 11 OF THESE CASES WERE IN KERRY, 20 FROM COUNTY CORK AND 15 FROM CORK CITY.
