Views of Council sought on windfarm application to An Bord Pleanála

Kerry County Council is requesting a financial contribution for the local community near where a 38-turbine windfarm is seeking planning permission. KCC logo ESB Wind Development Ltd has applied to An Bord Pleanála for permission for the windfarm near Kilgarvan on the Kerry/Cork border. Kerry County Council will not determine the application but its views are being sought by An Bord Pleanála. The proposed Grousemount windfarm spans 22 different townlands in Co Kerry and is located 23 km from Moll’s Gap. It’s an amalgamation of two previous planning applications that were granted by Kerry County Council. At their November meetings, councillors were asked for their opinions on a report compiled by the local authority on the development, which is to be submitted by Friday. Independent councillors Johnny and Danny Healy-Rae said the development has widespread support in the Kilgarvan area which is most affected. Sinn Féin’s Toireasa Ferris asked for a financial contribution to be made by the applicant to the community and that part of the energy generated by the plant would also be supplied for use by the community. Her party colleague Diane Nolan requested that language used in the council’s report that related to noise and vibration and shadow flicker would be strengthened.
