Kerry’s David Higgins has opened with a 2 under par 70 at the Italian Open.Higgins began the day with a birdie 4, but fell back to level par with a bogey at the second.After parring the third Higgins birdied the 4th. 4 pars followed, before a birdie at the 9th which sent him to the turn in 34, and 2 under.A birdie and 2 pars followed as Higgins went to minus 3 after 12 holes. However, a double bogey 6 awaited at the 13th, dropping him back to 1 under. Higgins recovered with birdies at the 14th and 15th. But another bogey at the 16th meant he dropped to 2 under. That’s a mark he stayed at, with 2 pars closing his round.Denmark’s Soren Kjeldsen tops the leaderboard on 9 under after a course record equalling round of 63.
