Union repeats calls to open mental health unit in Kerry

The Kerry branch of the Irish Psychiatric Nurses’ Association is renewing its calls for a mental health unit to be opened in University Hospital Kerry. University Hospital Kerry3   The four bed high observation unit was completed in December 2014 but according to the union remains closed due to a lack of nurses within the service. The Health Service Executive says the unit is open but is currently being used as an extension of the general mental health ward to allow for the refurbishment of a number of beds on that ward.
